Licensure in Quebec
Information for Applicants Looking to Practise in Quebec
The Regulatory College in Quebec is called, Ordre professionnel de la physiothérapie du Québec or OPPQ.
The OPPQ has its own process of credentialling and examining candidates who wish to practise physiotherapy in that province. It also has its own language proficiency requirements. If you would like to practise in Quebec please review the requirements detailed in the OPPQ website carefully.
If you completed physiotherapy training in Quebec and wish to practise in Quebec, you do not need to take the Physiotherapy Competency Exam (PCE). Contact the OPPQ to begin the registration process.
If you completed physiotherapy training in Quebec and wish to practise in another Canadian province without registering in Quebec first, you will need to take the PCE prior to obtaining a licence to practise.
If you already have a licence to practise in Quebec and wish to practise in another province, you must contact the Regulatory College in the province or territory in which you wish to practise to determine if there are other requirements you must meet. Your registration request will be treated as an inter-jurisdictional registration transfer[1].
If you completed your physiotherapy training in Canada, but not in Quebec, and wish to practise in Quebec, you must successfully complete the PCE before applying for a licence to practise from the OPPQ.
If you completed your physiotherapy training outside of Canada and wish to practise in Quebec, you will need to complete the equivalency assessment process (qualifications review and assessment) through the OPPQ. Special provisions are in place for physiotherapists trained in France. Please contact the OPPQ for more details.
